Cracking Sound, Swelling And Pain In Foot After An Injury. What Does This Indicate?

Hello i tripped down the stairs 2 weeks ago and heard a popping sound. My ankle and top of foot still hurt alot and their is a cracking noise when I try and walk that sounds like its from the top and a bulge on thebtop of my foot. There is modertae swelling on the top of the foot and slight discoloration/bruising. The more I try and use it the worse it gets.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Your foot pain informs you that the tissues are not healthy yet. Your recent injury could cause some bones fractures or dislocation. Both conditions needs to be diagnosed with an X-ray and both require foot immobilization for few weeks (4 or so).
As you still have pain and swelling you should not ignore it. Please visit your doctor, have simple X-ray done. Splint seems to be necessary and foot resting.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
