Frequent Cold And Diarrhea In Infant. Doctor Said Stomach Infection. Suggestion?

my girl is now 6 months old and is having frequent cold associated with diarrhea that is very less stool with sticky mucus. The doctor told me that it is a stomach infection and because she is formula fed, that is causing her infection. I just wanted to know is this correct, are formula fed kids prone to infection more that the breast feed ones?

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Yes, you are absolutely right. Formula fed infants are more prone for infection.
Because breast milk contains the immunoglobulins, white blood cells and it is essential for the immunity.
Immunity is vital to fight against infections.

Thats why your baby have frequent cold and diarrhoea.
Breast also easily digestible comparable to formula feeding.

Thus she have diarrhoea with sticky mucus.

As your baby finished 6 months, you can start weaning and introducing solid foods to your child.
You can start with mashed cooked vegetables and fruits.
but still you have to continue breast feeding intermittently.

This help in preventing infections and gastrointestinal problems like diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

Hope this helps.
Take care.

Dr.Manjeth
