Hi, I am taking concor 5mg for moderately high bp and have developed an itchy rash on my chest and neck that will not go away....now about 5 months......, the rash developed just a short time after beginning the concor 5. I want to stop it and see if the rash goes away. How do I stop it safely? My BP is now 120/72.

Hi,

Concor 5 mg contains bisoprolol which belongs to the group of medications known as beta-blockers is used to treat high blood pressure, angina, irregular heart rhythms and prevent future heart attacks, migraines etc. Side effects of Concor are nausea, vomiting, fatigue, headache, slow heart rate, diarrhea, dizziness, cold extremities, symptoms of allergic reactions like itching, rashes, swelling of tongue, lip or throat, breathing difficulties etc. If these side effects persist, then consult your doctor.

The dosage of Concor can be reduced in small increments or stopped, if your doctor thinks that you need to stop taking it. An alternative medication is often prescribed once the Concor is stopped. It depends on the condition being treated, your response and your needs. It isn't safe to simply stop taking Concor because it can have a profound effect on your heart and blood pressure and may be dangerous, even if reduced gradually. For this reason, you need to discuss the matter your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
