Hello and welcome to HCM
Inorder to understand your
ultrasound report, let me give you a brief introduction about the female genital tract.
Female reproductive tract consists of a pear shaped structure called
uterus. The opening of the uterus is known as
cervix. A pair of fallopian tubes is attached to the uterus. At the either end of the fallopian tubes are attached a pair of ovaries. One side fallopian tube and one side ovary is also called adnexa.
To the lower end of the cervis is the vaginal canal.
Uterus consists of three layers: endometrium,
myometrium and parametrium.
The thickness of endometrium increases, proliferates and is finally shed under the influenze of hormones in a monthly ovarian cycle.
The myometrium is the muscle layer. Proliferation of the muscle layer forms structures called fibroids.
Fibroids are bengn muscle tumors. They may cause discomfort, menorrahagia or dysmenorrhoea.
In your report the size of the uterus is 7.8x5.3x5.3cm which is normal range for non-pregnant uterus.
The lining of the endometrium is 7mm. To comment on the thickness the period of
menstruation should be known.
There are four fibroids in the uterus which are measure 4cm and less.
Right side ovary measures approximately 4x4x3cm. Right side ovary has a
cyst (empty space filledwith fluid) measuring 3.8cm. Cysts are present in normal ovaries, so they need not be removed if no symptoms are present.
Left side ovary is normal and has no cyst or mass.
Removal of fibroids is needed if they produce symptoms.
Thanks and take care
