Prescribed Cephalex For Cellulitis In Leg. Itchy, Red Rash On Arms. Due To Medicine?

Hello, My doctor prescribed "cephalex"-500mg.6 tablets per day to heal "cellulitis" on my right lower leg, just above my ankle. I have been taking this anti-biotic for 10 days and have only 2 tablets left. Three days ago I developed hives on bot of my fore-arms. I went back to my doctor and he gave me a cream(betadine) which has not helped. When I asked if the hives may be an allergy or side effect to the drug, he did not think so as he said it would be in other places on my body as well. I have an itchy, red rash on my arms and some itchiness elsewhere. Once before I had a similar problem with an anti-biotic, many years ago. I am concerned that my doctor may re-prescribe the same drug. I would like your comments as I know cellulitis is serious and I may need to continue anti-biotics for awhile. Thanks.

You may be having a drug induced rash due to allergy from the cephalexin used.It may help to shift to another class of antibiotics which will not produce the allergic symptoms.Clarithromycin,Amoxicillin-Clauvinic acid combination may treat the cellulitis and may avoid the rashes.
