Repeated Soft Bowel Movements With Cramping And Gas After A Recent Stomach Virus

I recently had a stomach virus and was tested for CDIF and other bacterial viruses. All test came back negative but I was put on Metronidazole. I just finished that. Diarrhea is gone but I am having 4-5 soft bowel movements per day with cramping and gas. I used to poop only 1-2 times per day. I have always eaten a high fiber diet and drink lots of water. I also swim 6 miles per week. This is consuming my life and I don't know what to do.

Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.

After reading your post, I would like to advise that you should get your stool examined for any bacterial infection.

If present, you should add an antibiotic for better coverage.
Continue with the metronidazole.
Also add digestive enzyme preparation containing pepsin and fungal diastase.
A probiotic will have added benefits.

I hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks.
