Shin Injury, Pain, Swelling, Purple Bruising, Soreness. Used Ice. What Else Can Be Done?
A few days ago I was kick starting my dirt bike, foot slipped and kick start dragged down my shin, of course causing major major pain...the cut it left did not blood but swelled in just a matter of seconds, and continued to swollen up my entire shin area in a matter of minutes. I iced it that day, and yes it was extremely sore...the next morning a lot of the swelling had went down, still sore to the touch, and kinda sore to walk on. Now it is four days later and my ankle is so swollen I can not see my ankle and is covered in a very purple bruise...please help.
Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
It seems from the description that you have a soft tissue injury of distal leg resulting in hematoma formation which will be tender to touch. I will advice you to have a x ray to rule out a minor fracture.Till then you should keep your limb elevated & do ice fomentation with ice pack.Take a good analgesic like advil or aleeve for relief.
So i think there nothing much to worry about. If you are still concerned, consult an orthopaedic surgeon and follow his advice.
Hope this helps
