What Causes Red And Raised Rash On Abdomen?

My 4-year old was put on augmentin for an ear infection and has had 7 doses. Today we noticed a fine, red, raised rash on his abdomen. This is exactly how he presented with strep throat about three weeks ago. He denies any sore throat, but he also had no complaints of a sore throat when he previously had a positive rapid strep test. Is it possible to develop strep throat while taking augmentin?

Hi

Welcome to the HCM

I appreciate your observation and understand your concerns. But don't worry. It's very unlikely due to streptococcal infection because there are no symptoms and augmentin works well against strep infections.
The fine red rash on abdomen can be due to an allergic reaction. It may occur due to drug allergy, food allergy or some allergens in his vicinity. In case it's troublesome, you may give him antihistamine such as Benadryl or Chlorpheniramine for relief. Also rule out drug allergy.

Hopefully this will be of help. I would be happy to help you in any further child health related questions in future.

Take care
