Hypersensitivity pneumonitis is a chronic inflammation of the lungs parenchyma. It results from an allergy to a particular allergen for instance bird feather, sugarcane bagasse, plastic, cheese, paints.
treatment requires identification of the allergen and complete avoidance of that allergen. Prednisolone @ 1mg/kg/day for 2 to 4 weeks followed by tapering over next 4 weeks help resolve the symptoms.
for bacterial infection, a good gram positive and negative coverage antibacterial like Tab Cephalexin( Sporidex) @ 50 mg/kg/day for 10 days will do.
