What Should Be Done To Avoid Side Effects Of Antibiotics Taken For Pylori Treatment?

I was diagnosed 7 yrs. ago when I went to a hospital with chest pain. The doctor prescribed Protonix 40 mg. I've been taking it ever since. I saw the side effects of the medicine and wanted to get off the medicine so asked for a test to see if I had h pylori . I never had the follow up of anti biotics I was supposed to have. I am possitive and now am taking the antibiotics. I am on the 2nd day. I am 75 yrs old and am frightened by the side effects of the antibiotics but feel I need to heal the ulser. what will happen to make sure I am ok and not have gastritis and etc.

Thank you for the question.
You seemed to be worried with the side effects of the drugs mentioned in scientific literature.
The pros of taking the drugs are much more when compared to the problems caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. If not treated, the ulcers turn into chronic ulcer and might lead to bleeding causing anemia and other complications.
So it is better to continue the treatment for H.pylori. Regarding the side effects of the antibiotics, you can consult your physician who can explain in detail about the same.
