5 Year Old, Itches, Burns And Pricks Inside Butt, Red In Color. What Could Be This?

my 5 year old has been complaining that it feels funny in her butt, She has woke up last three nights crying. I have managed to get out of her that it feels like it itches and burns and is picky inside her butt. Seems a little red, but not bad, put desatin on it the last 3 days but she is still crying. what could it be?

hi there, your description seems to fit that of entrobios vermicularis infestation or in simple terms pin worms or seat worms as they are commonly called. It is a fairly common infection of childhood and can be treated very effectivly with deworming with tab zentel once in the night. You can also get his stool exam done to look for ova and cysts or larve form of any other worm. You also need to see that he maintains good hygeine as it is caused due to auto infection. If there are other children in the house it would be good strategy to get every one dewormed at the same time including the adults. Repeat the deworming after 15 days and then 6 monthly to prevent recurrence.Take care.
