Child Afraid Of Noises. How To Get Over This Fear?

My Shih Poo is 16 months old and all of a sudden she is afraid of noises.
We used to walk her about 4 blocks in our neighborhood twice a day, now all of a sudden we can't get her to the corner. I all started when a neighbor was putting on a new roof and the sound of the hammering scared her, now it is cars, trucks, anything that makes a loud noise. I am concerned about this because she is not getting any excercise.
What can we do to help her get over this fear.

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

I commend your observations. It is really very scary for a child but you have to ensure that she is taken around to understand that things with loud noise will not necessarily harm anyone. It is only time which shall be the best healer but you will have to persist and ensure that she continues with her daily routine of exercise in the same environment.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter all the best.

Pediatrician Dr. Himanshi Kashyap's  Response
Hi.

Your daughter is suffering from Hyperacusis. Was just wondering whether she had this from birth onwards or as you say very recent development.

I would suggest you get her Auditory Function test done and get her examined by an ENT specialist who would guide you in getting her rebuilt her tolerance to loud noise.

Bye
Take care
