Anaphylaxis is most serious type of allergy which can be life threatening with other complications first aid involved and other treatment . It is the most serious, severe and life threatening allergic reaction and can be triggered with any of the Allergen. A allergen can be anything to which a individual is allergic. It can occur by an insect bite, eating something and even by consuming a medicine a person is allergic with. It occurs within minutes of exposure to allergic substance.

Symptoms, complications & associated risk

  • Itching, Flushing and pale skin
  • Wheezing due to narrowing of airways
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Dizziness or fainting

Medicines and Treatment plan

  • Patient should be given oxygen as there is difficulty in breathing
  • Steroids to be used promptly to prevent further progression
  • Injection of antihistamines and cortisone can br given depending upon the breathing difficulty
  • Sometimes a Beta agonist is used in cases where there is serious and persistent breathing troubles

Emergency management tips

  • Quickly identify the cases of severe allergy (Anaphylaxis) as per above mentioned symptoms and make an emergency call to nearest hospital
  • Check the person breathing and pulse and if any abnormality then immediately do Cardio Pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as a first aid measure
  • Some people having allergy conditions keep auto injectors with them which is a syringe prefilled with one shot of medication. Use the same immediately if found one.
  • It is advisable to carry a syringe prefilled with adrenaline so that if some emergency occurs one can self inject the drug
  • If someone is allergic to insect bite then he can get periodic and systematic allergy therapy or immunotherapy to decrease the immune response of body to that allergan

Prevention of allergic situation

  • Keep a list of medicines you are allergic to and show the same every time you see a doctor for a prescription
  • Always wear shoes while walking in grass if you are allergic to insect bite
  • While dining outside the home always ensure that the contents of food are appropriate for you if you have food allergy
